Student Leadership
At Glendal Primary School, student leadership is a valued and integral part of our school culture, providing students with authentic opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the school community while developing essential life skills. Leadership roles are offered across a range of areas, including School Captains, House Captains, Specialist Captains, G.E.M. (Glendal Environmental Mission) Captains, and Student Representative Council (SRC) Captains, ensuring that students with diverse interests and strengths have pathways to lead.
Our School Captains represent the student body at formal events, lead assemblies, and act as role models for their peers. They work closely with staff and students to promote school values and foster a positive learning environment. House Captains lead their respective houses in sporting events and wellbeing initiatives, encouraging participation, teamwork, and school spirit. Specialist Captains support our Visual and Performing Arts, Chinese, French, and Physical Education programs by assisting teachers, promoting engagement in specialist subjects, and helping organise events and exhibitions. G.E.M. Captains lead sustainability initiatives across the school, including waste management and environmental awareness campaigns, helping to embed sustainable practices into everyday school life. The SRC Captains represent their classes in regular meetings, contribute to decision-making processes, and lead student-driven projects that enhance wellbeing, inclusion, and school improvement.
Throughout the year, student leaders develop a wide range of skills including communication, organisation, teamwork, problem solving, and responsibility. They learn to collaborate with peers and adults, speak confidently in public settings, manage tasks and events, and reflect on their leadership impact. These experiences build resilience, empathy, and initiative, preparing students to be active and thoughtful contributors both within and beyond the school.
The impact of student leadership at Glendal is far-reaching. It strengthens student voice, promotes a sense of belonging, and fosters a culture of respect and collaboration. Leaders inspire their peers, contribute to a vibrant and inclusive school community, and help shape a positive school climate where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.
