Languages other than English
Mandarin
Our Mandarin program engages students in developing knowledge of a new language and improving their Mandarin skills through a range of differentiated learning experiences. We also have many fluent speakers whose learning is extended.
Targeting the complex language of Chinese through conversational skills, reading, and writing simplified Chinese characters deepens students’ understanding of Chinese culture. Stories, songs, and cultural events are used to further student engagement.
French
Students are introduced to the French language in Years 5 and 6. They regularly practise oral conversations to build confidence and fluency.
To support writing in French, students learn the alphabet, numbers 0–100, prepositions, nouns, verbs, and pronouns. This supports their developing understanding of the language through familiar and meaningful topics.
Performing Arts
We offer a large and vibrant music program for students from Foundation to Year 6. Students have opportunities to participate in Junior and Senior Choir, String Ensemble, School Band, and Drum Ensemble.
In classroom lessons, students explore beat, rhythm, pitch, melody, and composition through singing, body percussion, movement, and sight-reading music. Students also learn to play a variety of instruments including recorder, keyboards, guitars, ukuleles, xylophones, and percussion.
Each year, selected students participate in the Victorian State School Spectacular, gaining experience in a professional-standard production.
Visual Arts
Our engaging Visual Arts program is taught weekly in the school art room. Students create artworks using a wide range of materials and mediums.
Learning focuses on the elements and principles of art, including line, colour, value, shape, form, space, texture, contrast, emphasis, unity, repetition, pattern, balance, movement, and rhythm.
We take great pride in our Visual Arts program and actively showcase students’ work throughout the school.
Physical Education
All students participate in weekly Physical Education lessons taught by a specialist PE teacher. The program develops confidence, coordination, and physical ability through a range of individual and group activities, with a strong focus on respect and positive interaction.
In Foundation to Year 2, students develop fundamental motor skills through learning tasks and minor games, while building an understanding of the importance of physical activity and how the body responds to exercise.
In Years 3–6, students further develop motor skills, teamwork, and collaboration in preparation for team games and year-level sports. Students begin to associate physical activity with health and fitness, developing positive attitudes towards lifelong fitness habits.
Students also participate in whole-school sporting events including Cross Country, Hooptime, and Athletics Day.
