CHINESE NEW YEAR 2019
This year during Chinese New Year many people celebrated the amazing festival. There are 12 different animals in the Lunar Calendar and this year is the year of pigs. During Chinese New Year Eve families gather for family time and a reunion dinner which is believed to be the most important dinner of the year. Chinese New Year is all about colours, family time, fireworks, lion and dragon dances and giving out red pockets. The main colour is red because it symbolises good luck. We wear red clothes and decorate our houses with red because it brings us good luck, good fortune and prosperity. Lots of people go to lion and dragon dances and enjoy the loud noises and firecrackers. Children and grownups who aren’t married are given red pockets which have money inside. As you can see Chinese New Year is a very special festival celebrated by many.

Ice Brick Fund Raiser
Would you like to own one of these pets? Actually they are ice bricks, to travel in your lunch box each day, keeping your food cool and safe! Just put them in the freezer each night, that’s where they sleep!
The sale of these ice bricks will buy new books for our school and support two charities – the Fred Hollows Foundation and a village in East Timor. They are just $4.00 each with a special price of $2.00 for the monkeys (as they have an extra spot on the nose!). The ice bricks will be great for presents too! Students will be processing the orders, bagging the pets and delivering them to the classrooms, as part of real life learning. Samples will be at the office.
